I then developed and thoroughly tested this algorithm using the agile software approach and unit testing. The algorithm that is used in the site is to calculate peoples feedback rating.
June-July 2016 | Treves UK (Global manufacturer of car parts for companies such as Honda and BMW) - Trainee Engineer and Trainee Management Specialist
In my time at Treves UK I worked in multiple different areas and jobs to try and expand my knowledge and skill set. I spent a week in the manufacturing side of the company and a week in the offices, some of the jobs and roles I took are listed below:
- Worked as a trainee engineer under the chief engineer
- Solved problems to make work easier and more efficient for time constraints, these included:
- Timing employees on the production line to find out an average time for creating a component, I then used this time to see if they would meet their deadline and if not I would find a way to make it more efficient
- There was a waste bag suspended from the roof which when full proved difficult for employees to take down as it got very heavy, I came up with a solution to make it easier and less time consuming to do so
- Made a more efficient working triangle for an employee (so they wouldn’t have to move around as much to do all of their tasks), I did this by combining existing workbenches in a more efficient space
- Enhanced existing workbenches into new ones to make a more efficient working triangle for an employee, so they wouldn't have to move around as much to do all their tasks making them more efficient.
- Developed a new interview technique for the company to see if people could follow instructions and execute them in a small time frame.
- Created a spreadsheet to document serial numbers and dimensions of all moulds and machines used for Honda car components being manufactured there.
- Measured warehouse and made an accurate floor plan of where everything was placed inside.
- Quality control and product testing – tested the side boot panels for the new Honda Civic to see if they would fit into the car correctly.
Throughout my time at the company, I gained several skills and an insight into how a global company operates, including:
- Customer and supplier liaison
- Manufacturing
- Maintenance and product testing
- Problem solving
- Employee efficiency
- How different departments and countries communicate with each other
August 2015 & August 2019 | Technotherm Ltd (Leading distributor of ring binder mechanisms) - Packaging Specialist
Technotherm Ltd is an international company that sells ring binder mechanisms and other products. Working in a small team of 2 staff, I had to work under pressure when lots of orders came in, in a small time. While working their I had to locate products in the warehouse, package them either on pallets or in boxes and send them to customers. In a short space of time I had to learn how to use the companies software and computer system to take orders, make invoices for customers and make delivery notes for the delivery/shipping companies.
August 2014 – March 2017 | Village Shop - Paperboy and Shelf stacker
Every weekend for 3 years, I worked as a newspaper delivery boy for my local village shop. This taught me independence, time management and perseverance as it would be in all weather conditions throughout the year and in the early morning. For a couple of weeks I would also get up to help unload a delivery truck into the shop, these occurred at 4am which improved on my ability to manage time.
